Not your father's mud hut! A recently completed adobe house near Santa Barbara, California meets the strictest earthquake standards, needs very little heating or cooling, and is as lovely as a summer morning. Only in the past few decades have we figured out how to also make adobe and its cousins, like rammed earth, cob, and compressed earth block, to be safe in earthquakes. EBNet wrote the standard, ASTM E-2392.
